Mitch Hanlon - Fullerton, California Freelance Musician

Based in Fullerton, California, Mitch Hanlon has a career as a freelance musician that spans over five decades. While working toward his Bachelor of Fine Arts in piano performance at Chapman University, he was the choir president and a paid singer with the William Hall Chorale. He subsequently studied piano at the University of Southern California, graduating with his Master of Music. In addition to his diverse freelance work, Mitch Hanlon served more than 20 years as a professor of musical theater at California State University, Fullerton.

His freelance projects include accompanying artists on stage, directing music for theatrical productions, and providing instruction to voice and piano students. He founded the Musical Theater minor at the University of Southern California, co-founded the BFA Musical Theater program at Cal State Fullerton, as well as the pianist program at the Orange County School of the Arts. While he no longer teaches piano, he maintains a small private voice studio with many former students achieving professional careers on Broadway. Mitch Hanlon’s recent accomplishments include musical directing Company, Falsettos, and The Fantasticks! and a new musical for the Discovery Cube in Santa Ana, California, as well as vocal coaching Jeremy Irons for Disney’s The Lion King live theatrical broadcast from the Hollywood Bowl.
